In the normal operation of substations, single-phase grounding faults occur frequently. According to power regulations, a single-phase grounding fault can operate with a fault for 2 hours. However, a single-phase grounding fault will cause the normal phase voltage to rise, which may lead to insulation breakdown, causing the fault to expand, and even result in inter-phase short circuits, posing greater harm to the safety of system operation. Therefore, it is necessary to quickly identify and eliminate the faulty line.
However, for some substations, there are many outgoing circuits at 10KV and 35KV, and the original design did not include the installation of small current grounding selection devices. When a fault occurs, operating and maintenance personnel cannot promptly identify which outgoing circuit has a single-phase grounding fault, making it impossible to further isolate the fault. This brings a certain degree of blindness to the operators. Therefore, it is essential to retrofit these substations to add small current grounding selection devices.
