    The factory use/distribution medium voltage switchgear serves as the power supply hub for the entire plant's auxiliary machines/power supply system. In the event of an internal fault, the ability to quickly isolate the fault is crucial for the safe operation of the entire plant/distribution system. However, under the current protection scheme, there are several issues:

    1) The medium voltage busbar has not been equipped with any dedicated protection; instead, it relies on the relevant backup protection of the incoming switch.

    2) The protection of the incoming and outgoing switches needs to cooperate: the time delay for general instantaneous protection should be at least 300ms, or even 500ms.

    3) The coordination time difference for overcurrent protection can be as long as 1 to 2 seconds.

    Therefore, any fault occurring on the factory use/distribution medium voltage busbar must be delayed for isolation. In other words, the existing protection for quickly isolating faults on the factory use medium voltage busbar is still a blank. However, with a little attention, it is not difficult to find that all electrical equipment upstream and downstream of the medium voltage switch busbar is equipped with fast protection. In contrast, it is hard to justify why the safety and reliability of the medium voltage busbar should be treated with such negligence. Given the important position of the medium voltage busbar, any delayed isolation of faults is a situation we are extremely unwilling to see. This is because various faults within the switchgear can generate arcs and a large amount of high temperature due to short-circuit currents, causing the gas inside the cabinet to expand rapidly, potentially reaching a peak in a very short time, seriously endangering personal and equipment safety.
